Most homework battles aren't about a child refusing to work — neither side knows how much longer it will take. The adult is anxious; the child sees no end.
So this computes the practical thing first: it splits tonight's work into segments sized by school year (15 minutes for the youngest, then 20, 25, 30, 35), adds breaks, places them on the clock, and gives you the finish time.
Segment length follows the child's age, not the amount of homework — set a young child a 25-minute block and the last ten minutes are theatre.
Print the schedule and let the child cross off completed segments. Visible progress beats any amount of prompting, and the younger the child the more it shows.
Then three concrete moves for tonight's specific sticking point — dawdling (usually not attitude but a task with no visible edges), fidgeting (shorten the segment first), tears at the first hard question (bring the feeling down before explaining anything; reversed, neither works), fiddling (changing the desk is easier than changing the child), constant questions (separate not-knowing from wanting company). Try three things, not five — otherwise you won't know which one worked.
Plus the parent's script: five things worth saying, four worth avoiding, and a circuit-breaker — when you feel it rising, stand up and get a glass of water. Thirty seconds away costs nothing; one outburst costs the rest of the evening — and tomorrow.
The hardest rule: when it runs over, don't add time. Stop at the schedule and finish in the morning — ending on time matters more than finishing tonight, because it's what makes tomorrow's schedule believable.

Unlimited: a nightly schedule and targeted moves, task-breakdown cards that turn "do maths" into blocks a child can see the end of, scripts for each sticking point, and a weekly review — which subject eats the most time, where it breaks down, and what improved.
This is not an educational, medical or psychological assessment and diagnoses nothing. Segment lengths (15/20/25/30/35 minutes by school year) are a general convention used here, not a standard; children differ enormously — adjust to what you observe, and shorten rather than lengthen when attention breaks. The finish time assumes everything goes smoothly; reality usually runs longer. If a child shows persistent difficulty with attention, reading, writing or emotional regulation, or if homework consistently produces serious distress, consult their teacher, a paediatrician or a specialist — it may not be a method problem. This tool does no homework and provides no answers to any assignment. Do not enter your child's name or school. Nothing you enter is stored.
